Can Records Survive the NHL’s Grueling 84-Game Marathon?
An 84-game schedule provides additional scoring opportunities. It does not remove the effects of missed games, changing power-play production, or stretches of lower scoring.
What the 84-Game Schedule Changes
The NHL’s 2026–2027 schedule includes 1,344 games across 194 days. Play began September 29, 2026, and the regular season ends April 10, 2027.
Each club plays two more games than under the previous 82-game format. Those additions increase the league schedule by 32 games and each team’s available games by approximately 2.4 percent.
