Cowboys Lock Down Star WR George Pickens with $27.3M Franchise Tag—What’s Next for His Future?
Schefter maintained that Pickens’ plan was still to sign the tag and read a text from a source.
“It was draft weekend,” Schefter read on Monday. “Signing the tag immediately wasn’t first thing on his mind.”
Two days later, it’s finally official. But that doesn’t mean the contract drama between the Cowboys and Pickens is over.
Dallas can still trade Pickens if it wants, although Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones said last week that they have no intention of doing so. Plus, his father, owner and general manager Jerry Jones, noted at the league’s annual meeting last month that the franchise has “long-term plans” for Pickens.
