The Cowboys like what Pickens brought to table, but it’s clear they’re not ready to dole out a hefty extension. They announced earlier this month that they won’t negotiate a long-term deal by the NFL’s July 15 deadline for 2026 franchise-tagged players to receive multiyear contracts. Dallas has also been candid about the difficulty of paying two receivers top-of-market money.
The Cowboys’ voluntary offseason program began this week. Just because Pickens signed the tag doesn’t mean he’ll attend organized team activities, including minicamp.
