How EA Sports’ Relentless Updates Are Revolutionizing College Football 27 Beyond All Expectations

Different factors determine what gets added, updated or fixed in the game.

Most players are included at launch, but some freshmen and transfers are initially absent. According to Haumiller, that often comes down to the enrollment and approval process at individual schools. EA Sports must wait until a player’s likeness is cleared for use. Once approval is received, developers begin the process of building that player’s full likeness, ratings and attributes before adding them to the game.

Then there are the hundreds of cosmetic updates. Teams constantly unveil new uniforms, field designs and stadium enhancements throughout the season, requiring a steady stream of additions.

Many of those updates are carefully coordinated. More often than not, EA Sports already knows what’s coming thanks to ongoing communication with schools, but waits until official announcements are made.

“We don’t want to ever leak anything early or spoil anything for anyone,” Haumiller said, pointing to the addition of Indiana’s championship banner as one example.
