Jay Paterno Reveals Shocking Insights on Drew Allar and Penn State’s NFL Draft Future
Joshua Valdez: Speaking of building him up, how would you develop him at the pro level? Is there anything you’d work on in particular over those couple of years before he’s ready to be”the guy?”
Jay Paterno: Well, I think he’s been really good at times and at other times he’s been inconsistent. Those are things that you grow out of; those are things you can get better at. He was in some tough situations last year where he made some throws, whether it was the Notre Dame game in the playoff year [2024] before the Oregon game [2025], which everybody [thinks] kind of stands out because he threw an interception late in the game. You know, people forget that Penn State was down 17-3 to Oregon. He had a great fourth quarter, got them to tie the game, and got them the lead in overtime. So he has shown he can do things in crunch time. I think the mental aspect of it, for every quarterback coming out, the game accelerates quite a bit. So those are weird things that you want to work on.
