Jay Paterno Reveals Shocking Insights on Drew Allar and Penn State’s NFL Draft Future
Joshua Valdez: What kind of role do you think [running back] Katron Allen could have in his first NFL season? He might not be a first-round guy, but can he still help right away?
Jay Paterno: Well, I think he’s going to be a power back right off the bat. Whoever takes him, they’re going to be looking for a guy who wants to run between the tackles. The great thing about Allen is if you hand him the ball on first-and-10, you’re almost never gonna be in second-and-10, or second-and-11, or second-and-12. When he hits the pile, the pile always seems to move backwards. So even on a bad play, you’re gonna be looking at second-and-nine, second-and-eight. For as much as the NFL teams say they want to “stay on schedule,” I think he’s that kind of back. I think he can evolve in the pass game and get even better than he was. And I think he’s been a great pass protector. So if you’re looking for a guy that can pick up blitzes on first and second down, he’s a great guy for that too.
